Episode 19: The Online Porn Episode
Pornography is always a contentious issue and never more so with the introduction of easily accessible, anonymous online porn that one can now get piped anonymously into ones house. The numbers are boggling: in America the porn industry makes over twelve billion dollars in revenue every year and the global porn revenue is close to ninety-six billion dollars. In the time it took to read this paragraph nearly one hundred thousand people could be found surfing online porn sites.
In this week’s episode of The Digital Edge we look at the medium that pushed the Internet into the mainstream despite still being something most people will not admit to taking part in. In this episode we speak to Wendy Maltz, a sex therapist from America to get her views on online porn as well as how easy it is for people to get addicted to the medium. We then speak to Silas Howarth, the organiser of the Sexpo to give us a slightly more “pro-porn” opinion. To round off we get the opinion of various people on the street to see what they think about porn. These anonymous contributors talk on varied topics such as the economics behind porn, their distaste for the medium and how often they watch porn.
Also joining us is Joey Da Silva of Cape Town based, web and mobile application developer, Formfunction in our Agency of the week section. Antonio Petra joins us for the last time this week to give us a summary of all we’ve learnt about online measurement. Our top ten this week is ten movie names repurposed for porn movies. As always we’re also joined by Kerry-Anne Gilowey with the news where this week we discuss politics.
