Episode 32: Bloggerati
As the amount of Internet connections in South Africa slowly grows, more and more interest groups are coming online and publishing their content for all to see. Blogging provides a voice for these people and allows them to promote their opinions, services and often agenda. What seems to be a growing trend these days is that individuals that previously had a personal blog are using Twitter as their soapbox and at the same time, blogs are moving into the opinion piece and thought leadership arena.
Does this mean blogging is moving away from fluffy "dear diary" style sites and more towards semi-professional journalistic pieces and if so, is this even a good thing? The reality is that blogging has only rarely rivalled proper researched journalism but this is rapidly changing. We're joined by bloggers Laura-Kim Allmayer, Sheena Gates, Daniel Bailey and Vincent Hofmann to give us an idea on whether blogs are all about narcissism, whether they think they're real journalists and what they see the future of blogs is. Our final guest is Alistair Fairweather, social media manager at 24Labs to give us an overview of their recently re-launched blogging platform: "Letterdash".
Our Agency of the week is Osmosis, a viral marketing company headed by Leon Orsmond. Also this week, we start a new "Tips and Tricks" section and are joined by Nausher Rahman of Grid Worldwide to give us some branding tips. Before all that you can listen to the news with Kerry-Anne Gilowey.
