Episode 39: Travel and Tourism
In this week's episode of The Digital Edge we take a look to see what is being done to promote South African tourism online. While internal marketing for South Africa tends to be done on radio, print and T.V. adverts there is a strong push internationally to promote the country via the Internet. Realistically, international visitors have the choice between going to a travel agent and using the Internet for their information.
Destination Marketing Organisations, traditionally part of a government tourism agency, have started a major push online. These sites can give potential visitors the ability to book hotels, tours, rentals and sightseeing all from the comfort of their bedroom.
We speak to Aslam Levy of Cape Town Tourism as well as Karin Duncker of the German Tourism Board. They give us the lowdown of what their territories are doing to promote themselves online.
In our "60-second pitch" we're joined by Marcel Oudejans and our Top Ten this week features the ten best "Sheldonisms" in honour of the character Sheldon Cooper on T.V. show "Big Bang Theory". As always, we're joined by Kerry-Anne Gilowey from Cape Town Daily Photo.
