Episode 40: Email Marketing
In this week’s episode of The Digital Edge we take a look at the contentious topic of email marketing. Studies show that ninety percent of all email’s sent are considered spam due to their nature of being unsolicited even if they are relevant to that person’s needs. However, there is still a place for email marketing as part of an integrated campaign. The problem it seems is that of people purchasing databases from marketers selling addresses of people not opting into these lists.
We speak to two legitimate email marketers in the form of Josh Adler from pMailer and Mia Papanicolaou from Striata. They give us a run through of how best to create an email marketing campaign as well as giving us some advice on what not to do when it comes to database purchases. We also speak to an email database list seller to see how that industry operates.
In our 60-second pitch we speak to Robynn Burls of Encyclomedia, a highly targeted media database service. Our top ten features then ten most amusing spam email subjects’ lines and as always, we’re joined by Kerry-Anne Gilowey in our news section.

Agree with Pete Crane. True opt in email marketing is the second most effective online marketing tool behind SEM. Fully compliant and opt in lists are completely available in the local market.
