Episode 4: Traditional Strikes Back

02 February 2009

This week we return to the topic of how traditional agencies view the world of digital marketing and see how the likes of a massive advertising conglomerate such as Y&R view the topic. We hear from Yossi Schwartz, the Group Chief Executive Office for Y&R and see how his company approaches the world of digital.

We also hear from Heather Ford in her regular segment, "Blogedge" and other regulars such as the news roundup and the somewhat self indulgent "Top 10" for the week.

Finally we launch a new section this week known as "Agency of the week". This episode we feature Sarah Rice from Sentient Communications talking to us about her traditional PR company's push into online PR

No animals were harmed in the making of Episode 4 of the Digital Edge.

Guests:

Yossi Schwartz:

Yossi is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Y&R Gitam. Yossi started a small agency in the early nineties known as Gitam and rapidly grew the business to the point where ad conglomerate WPP bought out the company.

Sarah Rice:

Sarah is the Managing Director and founder of Sentient Communications Before founding Sentient in 2003, Sarah spent three years with global IT PR agency Text 100, working on key accounts such as KPMG Consulting, UUNET and Cisco Systems. Prior to this, her work experience is eclectic, ranging from an eventful stint in the local film industry to being a creative writer in an industrial theatre company.
She has a passion for working with clients that give her the freedom to think both creatively and strategically, allowing Sentient to breathe new life into traditional PR tactics. Her main job is creating an environment where Sentient beings can grow and succeed, which is a mixture of '1000-yard-stare visionary', and keeping the nuts and bolts of the business tight.

IEC website
Nice show.

The R3 million figure for the IEC website comes originally from an interview I did with the IEC CIO for Tectonic last year (http://www.tectonic.co.za/?p=3559).

The truth is that the website will have cost more than R3 . .more

Thanks
Hi Alastair

Just a quick thanks for clearing everything up. A shocking waste of money regardless.
